Bits 2007/2008
The Bits series are larger than life images of one of the tools that allow a horse to be controlled. My past series Racetrack was all about the control that a potential outcome has on a person, where as the Bits series is about the control that a 1,200 + pound animal gives to a person. These images reference jewelry, weapons, and medical equipment and yet they have been created with different materials and shapes to utilize different parts of the horse’s head and mouth for control. By isolating each bit, it is a portrait study of what communication and power means and the tools that are used to accomplish it.
